About me
Born and raised in Malaysia, I embarked on my musical journey at an early age. At the age of six, I began learning piano and singing in a choir. By the time I turned eleven, I expanded my musical repertoire by taking voice and violin lessons. Even before starting my formal studies in Germany, I worked as a piano teacher at music schools and privately in Malaysia, while also performing as a pianist at various concerts, including the Subang Jaya Music Festival in 2010.
In 2013, I moved to Germany to pursue a Bachelor of Music in Piano Performance under the guidance of Prof. Konrad Maria Engel and Artem Yasynskyy at the University of the Arts Bremen. In 2018, I continued my studies with a Master’s degree in Piano Song Interpretation at the University of Music Karlsruhe, where I studied with Prof. Hartmut Höll and Prof. Mitsuko Shirai, graduating in 2020. I then embarked on another Master’s program in Opera Coaching at the State University of Music and Performing Arts Stuttgart with Prof. Bernhard Epstein, but chose to explore new directions during my studies.
My artistic development has been shaped by numerous masterclasses with distinguished musicians, including Annikka Konttori-Gustafsson, Prof. Dr. h.c. Daniel Fueter, Kathryn Goodson, and Prof. Konrad Richter.
Currently based in Zurich, I teach piano with enthusiasm and a deep commitment to fostering musical growth in students of all ages. Starting from September 2024, I am pursuing a Master’s degree in Music Pedagogy, specializing in Elementary Music Education, at Zurich University of the Arts (ZHdK), along with a minor in Educational Science. Alongside my teaching role in parent-child singing groups (in Mandarin), I am passionate about sharing my knowledge and skills with children, teenagers, and adults who are eager to explore the world of music.
Experience and Awards. With over a decade of experience as a piano teacher at various music schools in Zurich, Stuttgart, Karlsruhe, and Malaysia, as well as in private, I have honed my skills in both teaching and performing. My work as a répétiteur at Theater Pforzheim, where I served as a solo répétiteur, and my involvement in choir projects such as Soli Deo Gloria in Norden, were instrumental in my professional growth.
Throughout my career, I have received several awards, including 2nd prize at the Asia Competition in Malaysia (2012), 2nd prize at the University of the Arts Bremen Chamber Music Competition (2016), and 2nd prize at the Rainer Koch Memorial Competition (2018). I was also honored with the Richard Wagner Scholarship in 2018 and was a Yehudi Menuhin Live Music Now Oberrhein e.V. scholar from 2018 to 2020.
